Sleeping issues

Today seeemed to alternatively drag by and fly by. There were moments where I was sure that it wouldn’t end, like when Nate needed to go down for a nap and simply wouldn’t sleep unless he was being held.  But then there were moments that flew, like when we got out and went to the mall or were outside and playing in the yard.

Nate is a little over 9 months now and we’re still having sleeping issues. For a while, he wasn’t going to sleep by himself unless he was being held. We would have to let him cry himself to sleep. I had to do that with Nate this afternoon for his nap – he was obviously tired. All of the signs were there – circles under the eyes, whining, rubbing eyes and putting his head down. But he would sob and cry and carry on whenever I put him down to sleep.  So I had to let him cry and eventually, he fell asleep on his own, without me holding him. He has also been waking up at ungodly hours – 5:30 in the morning is not an unusual time for him to be up.  If he sleeps until 6:30 or 7, that’s sleeping in. We’ve been trying to keep him up later at night – instead of letting him go to sleep at 7:30, we try to keep him up until 8 or 8:15 and that seems to help, but hasn’t completely gotten rid of the problems. We also are giving three solid meals (baby food) a day.

Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do that was successful?

  1. Have you had a chance to read the baby whisperer? She can seem like her way is the only way to get your child to sleep… and sometimes i thought she was off her rocker, but my son sleeps now 7-7 with a few exceptions. I’ve heard the earlier to bed the later they’ll rise. Also i found my little guy woke up earlier in the summer when the sun came up early… Don’t know where you live, but is the sun coming up when your son wakes? Sadly one morning i was so frustrated i taped garbage bags to the windows LOL not a proud mommy moment LOL
