Today’s meme is taken from Literary Feline:
“Name a favorite literary couple and tell me why they are a favorite. If you cannot choose just one, that is okay too. Name as many as you like–sometimes narrowing down a list can be extremely difficult and painful. Or maybe that’s just me.”
A favorite literary couple huh? I’m going to have to exclude Leia and Han Solo because they aren’t “literary.” To me, literary means that they are from books. I’m going to have to go with Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara from Gone With the Wind, the epic Civil War Novel written by Margaret Mitchell. I love how Rhett becomes thoroughly enamored with Scarlett, to the point that he would do anything for her. I think that at first, he’s curiously drawn to her but then grows to love her fierce desire to survive, so much so that he can see past her selfishness and her procrastination. He loves her even though she’s not beautiful in the conventional sense. And she loves him too, although she doesn’t realize it until he’s left her, which is the tragic part of the whole relationship!
